Lakme 9 to 5 Naturale Matte Sticks + Lakme 9 to 5 Eye color Quartet review

Hello my beauties ! Hope you are having a great week.

Huge work pressure at office has made my life miserable since last couple of weeks. I am not the “all work and no play” person at all. What better to lift your mood than buying some makeup 😀 I decided to visit a Lifestyle store near my place few days back. I was aiming to buy the recently launched Lakme 9 to 5 Naturale range ever since they launched. So I went straight to the Lakme counter to have a look at the range. I already own most of the products like Aloe Vera gel and loose powder from other brands. But you cannot have enough lipsticks, at least that’s the case with me. Major portion of my makeup vanity is filled with lipsticks and I still continue to buy whenever I see any interesting lip product. I loved the 9 to 5 lipsticks since college days, I own all the variety they launched in this series – mattes, creamy mattes, primer + matte lip color. I have finished some and continue to use few others. As a result I had high hopes from these Naturale Matte Sticks as well.

There was a sale going on where all Lakme products were at a discount of upto 40%. I got 20% off on the lipsticks, so had extra budget for 1 or 2 more items. The salesperson was insisting me to take the Absolute Eye shadow palettes which I disliked, they were not up to the mark at all even at the discounted rate. I spotted these 9 to 5 Quartets on one side of the counter and decided to check these out. These looked far more promising than the Absolute palettes and had a very affordable price tag after discount. So I decided to buy a palette to try out the 9 to 5 Eye color Quartet and see if I like it as much as the lipsticks.

In today’s post I will be sharing with you my thoughts on the newly launched Lakme 9 to 5 Naturale matte sticks and 9 to 5 Eye color Quartet.

Lets get started !

Lakme 9 to 5 Naturale Matte Sticks (INR 550 for 2.2g) :

The entire Naturale range is infused with the goodness of Aloe vera and honey. To go with the Aloe vera theme I think Lakme has given a green tint to the usual all rose-gold packaging of 9 to 5 products. Lakme impressed me with their packaging when they launched the Absolute Matte Lip color with Argan oil. They impressed me again with this one. The  rose gold with green tinted metal body gives these lip crayons a luxurious appearance. The only downside is that they are not color coordinated. If you own multiple of these sticks you have to open each one to find out which shade you want.

These matte sticks are almost on the metallic side. This is a little misguiding since they are marketed as matte sticks. They are not insanely metallic and not completely matte as well. They have fine shimmer particles which makes your lips reflective and not matte. They dry out my lips after 4 to 5 hours, I usually apply a clear lip balm on top. But these are very long lasting, they stay on my lips for at least 9 to 10 hours without fading away. If you take heavy meals the lipstick will fade out slightly on the inner part of your mouth. Since these do dry up my lips, I prep my lips well every time I reapply, otherwise it will enhance your dry patches.

Since this range is infused with Aloe vera and honey the lipsticks are quite smooth and creamy when you first apply them. They are easy to apply just like most other crayons, retractable so that you do not have the hassle of sharpening. The sticks are quite pigmented. One swipe will give you opaque application. You need 2 to 3 swipes maximum to get complete color pay off.

There are total 15 shades available in this range. I bought these 2 – Candy Centre and Rose Ville to test out the product. I usually buy a few to try out before investing in multiple shades so that I do not waste too much money on something I will not like in future.

The shade Candy Centre is a bright peach color. It is suitable for fair to medium skin tones. This shade is very good for a fun summer makeup look. A bright lip can always add more glamor to your look even if you do not spend a lot of effort on your face. In my opinion this shade looks more matte than metallic compared to the other shade Rose Ville I bought. This may seem so since the base peach color is super bright  and so the shimmer particles are not that distinct on the lips.

The other shade Rose Ville is a mauve pink shade with a distinct metallic shine. This shade is good for all skin tones in my opinion. It is a beautiful color specially for festive occasion like weddings. This particular shade looks best on me with ethnic wear. It looks slightly darker than what the swatch looks like. I love both shades equally.

Will I repurchase ? Yes. I may not repurchase these 2 in particular, but will try out few more shades from this range for sure. Fuchsia Alley, Rouge Metro and Spice Street are in my next purchase list.

Lakme 9 to 5 Eye Color Quartet – Silk route (INR 650 for 7g) :

Lets move ahead to the Eye color Quartet now. I got a 30% discount on this product, since it was costing me so less, I decided to try it and see if it works for me.

The packaging color scheme of all 9 to 5 products are mostly same. I love the rose gold color 🙂 This one is a basic plastic quartet box with 4 shimmer shades. The transparent lid helps you see which colors are inside easily. But I feel the plastic lid is a bit fragile and may break or crack if you are not careful. The palette does not have any mirror.

Strangely there are no ingredients mentioned for this product. Brand claims, how to use instructions and other info are printed at the back of the box as well as the palette.

There are 4 palette options in this range – Smokey Glam, Silk Route, Desert Rose and Tanjore Rush. I chose the palette Silk Route. I know I own a ton of palettes which has similar bronze gold shade. But I can’t help but gravitate to this color every time, I love it so much. Besides this palette has a beautiful shimmery plum shade which I also love. The other combinations were too neutral or cool toned.

The eye shadows are decently pigmented. The most pigmented & beautiful of the 4 are plum and bronze gold, the pink one also has an OK pigmentation. But the dark grey color with green undertones is my least favorite. It looks weird and almost dirty on my lids. Also it looks uneven and difficult to blend out. It makes my eyelids look like someone punched me.

The formula is powdery but smooth. It does not have too much fall out. I prefer to press such shimmer shades into my lid with my fingers. If you use a brush, I think you have to work harder to get good color payoff, also there will be more fall out. The shimmer particles are fine and does not feel gritty or chunky.

The tiny brush is useless in my opinion. If you do not have any other choice you may use it to pack the color into your lid. But I will suggest you to use fingers, it works far better than the brush.

Here are all 4 shade swatches for you. I use the plum and bronze gold shade the most in this quartet. These 2 are the most pigmented and looks gorgeous on the lids. If you want a simple shimmery eye look with just one color, go for any of these 2 shades. You can even use them together, apply plum all over your lid & add the bronze gold in the middle or apply towards your inner corner and blend half way into your lid with the plum.

The silver pink shade is pigmented and is a decent option for brow bone and inner corner highlight. Though I think it looks too silvery and almost white on my skin tone, the pink undertone does not show up at all for me.

The dark grey with green undertones shimmer shade is not my favorite. It looks uneven and patchy to blend on the outer corners. It looks pigmented in the swatch but that does not transfer on my lids much. Also I do not like shimmers for my outer corners, mattes always look better as transition, crease color and outer corners in my opinion. The green undertone looks weird, in short I do not like this particular one.

Will I repurchase ? No

If you are just beginning with makeup and want to put on a single shimmery eye shadow all over your lid, then these palettes are good for you. If you buy this one at its MRP I would suggest you to think twice before buying and look for better options before spending on this one. For the price I paid for it, I do not regret. I got 2 beautiful shimmer shades which kind of made the day for me. If you get it at a good discount, you may give it a go like me.

Personally I love the Maybelline City Mini Palettes more than this, they are just INR 100 extra but have more shade options, also the color schemes are better than these quartets. Graffiti Pop and Rooftop Bronze are my favorite mini palettes. Gigi Hadid eye palette in the shade Warm is also a great option if it is still available near you.

Let me know in the comment section if you want me to review the City Mini palettes in detail for you.

Hope you enjoyed reading my mini Lakme makeup haul and my opinions helped you in some way. Share your experience in the comment section if you own any of these products I mentioned.
