Hello everybody! Wish you a super fun weekend ahead 🙂
Since I started this blog, I started organizing my makeup a lot better than before. I have different sections in my vanity for everyday makeup, festive makeup, casual night time makeup etc. There is a big basket labelled “makeup I regret buying” at the bottom part where I store all the products which did not work for me or suit my liking. I follow the same arrangement for my skin & hair care products shelf.
I like to share with you all the products in my “bad bin” both makeup & skincare related so that if any of you have the same preference, skin type and complexion similar to me, you think twice before spending your money on these products. Today I have collected all the items I regret buying last 3 to 4 months. I do not hate these brands, nor trying to bash them in any way. Its just these products do not suit my liking or skin type. If any of these are your favorite please continue to use them for sure since we are all unique 🙂
Lets get started !

- VLCC Snigdha Skin Whitening Serum (40ml for INR 450)

All 3 of the skincare products I have mentioned in this post are very popular and loved by many. But unfortunately they did not suit my preference. Lets talk about the skin & hair care products first and the reason I do not like them.
VLCC Snigdha Skin Whitening Serum :
2 things very positive about this product is the pump packaging and the soothing fragrance. But that is not enough for a skincare product.
The product has a runny gel like consistency. While purchasing I really expected it to blend into my skin easily. Gel serums are great for combination skin like me. Also it claims to work on the blemishes and brighten complexion. But unfortunately after a week of applying this product on my face my face had a lot of breakouts. Initially I was not sure whether this product was causing it or not. So I stopped using and the acne reduced.
Also this product feels quite greasy on my face and takes a lot of time to absorb into the skin, more than I prefer in my serums. But I thought of using it in winters as a moisturizing serum, it does nothing except breaking me out and turn my face into a grease-ball for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
If you have combination skin & looking for a good serum to brighten up your skin, try any of these 3 my favorite serums depending on your budget – The Face Shop White Seed Brightening Serum, The Body Shop Drops Of Light Brightening Serum and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II.
Batiste Instant Hair Refresh – Cherry :
Batiste is my favorite dry shampoo brand for a very long time. The packaging of this bottle is the cutest out of all Batiste dry shampoos. Also the smell is refreshing. I expected it to be the prefect travel partner, but I was proved wrong.
The pump is quite strong and dispenses quite a lot of product, slightly more than required in my opinion.
This is the most flaky and powdery dry shampoo I have ever used. You can see a thick layer of powder is deposited right at the opening in the pump. Also my sky blue rug is filled with white powder where I kept the bottle.
I understand that all dry shampoos deposit a little amount of white powder on the scalp which goes way if you blend it into your hair well. But this one is extreme. A huge part of my hair turns completely white and its very difficult to blend so much white powder into the hair. Also after some time white flakes can be seen all around my hair. It appears that I have a huge dandruff problem which looks really ugly.
If you are looking for a good dry shampoo & can compromise on not coming in travel size bottles, go for Batiste Dry Shampoo Plus Instant Hair Refresh Divine Dark or Wella Professionals EIMI Dry Me Dry Shampoo.
Yves Rocher 24H Anti-perspirant – Lime :
I love roll on deo specially for my underarms because longer in my skin compared to spray deo. I always prefer Alcohol free deos & roll ons because they do not darken my skin. Famous Indian beauty youtuber Debashree Banerjee suggested this product in one of her videos, so I decided to try it for myself.
The lime fragrance is very refreshing. I have not tested the 24H claim, but it does stay on my skin for a very long time around 5 to 6 hours. Also it is alcohol free.
The main drawback of this product is the consistency. The fluid has a white tint and thicker than usual roll ons. Also the ball tip applies a lot of product when you rub it into your skin. It takes at least 10 minutes to absorb into the skin. If you do not let it dry completely, the skin feels very greasy and sticky at the same time.
If you want to reapply the product on the go, it may smear your clothes specially the underarms area.
The bottle looks messy and gross. Look how much product is deposited at the cap and the bottle. I prefer my Nivea roll ons way more than this.
If you love roll on like me and looking for a good one, go for – Nivea Fresh Natural Anti Perspirant Roll-On Deodorant.
Now lets move on to makeup products. I love trying a lot of makeup because new makeup is always exciting. I also get some in my subscription boxes every month. Not all of them turn up as I expect them to. So the makeup regret bin is always heavier than the skin care. Lets discuss why these products are in the regret list.
Loreal Paris the minerals True Match Mineral Powder Foundation :
I was very impressed with the Loreal True Match range – the foundation, concealer and compact powder were quite good. So when I saw this mineral foundation at the Loreal store, I decided to give this one a try with the other True Match products. But sadly this one did not suit me at all.
The first mistake is totally mine, I selected the wrong shade. Golden Sand is little dark for my complexion. But that not the only reason for my disappointment. I did not like the brush at all. It looks cute but the hair is rough and pokes my skin whenever I want to use it to apply the powder.
The brand claims it to be a mineral foundation. So I expected it to give me a light natural looking coverage without clogging my pores. Since I have combination skin, oily T-zone, I thought a powder foundation will suit me best during summer. But it gives zero coverage for me. The product is very dusty and flies around everywhere when I try to apply it all over my face. The powder is not very smooth and my skin feels weird, like I have a thin layer of sand on my face.
I do not like this product at all. The True Match compact powder is far better than this.
If you want to try out a good quality loose powder check out the Revlon Luxury Banana powder. The Bharat & Dorris loose powder is also a good affordable option.
PAC Pore Primer :
PAC is one of my favorite makeup brand. I never thought any of their product will enter this list. Let me tell you an honest opinion. This product is not bad at all, its just not suited for my skin.
I have a lot of pores around my nose area. They are not huge but quite visible specially when I wear a completely matte foundation like Loreal Infallible pro matte. This primer does not do the job for me. Also I feel that my makeup does not last more than 4 hours particularly around my nose area as I am oily there. Loreal Base Magique had a thicker consistency than this, but it did a far better job as a primer for me.
If you are in your early twenties or you are blessed with good skin, no visible pores then this primer is a good choice for you.
I am still on the look out for a good quality primer for my combination skin. I have 3 primers in my bucket list which beauty gurus rave about – Benefit Pore-fessional, NYX Pore Filler and Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Pore Minimizing. If you have already tried any of these let me know your experience in the comment section.
GLO Illuminator – Manna Kadar Cosmetics :
I got this product in the December 2017 Glamego box. You can check out the post to know more about this product in detail.
I tried this product in so many ways, but it failed for me every time. I mixed a little of this with my moisturizer for a glow from within effect. My face had a horrible pink skin tone with specks of shimmer everywhere. Then I tried it as a cream highlighter for a subtle glow. Again it looked really bad on my skin. It did not even work for my body.
The undertone of this product is so pink and dark for my complexion that it looks really weird in whatever way I use it. I decided to part with it even if I have not finished even half the tube.
If you love liquid illuminators just go for the cult favorite MAC Strobe cream. Nothing can beat the oldie but a goodie in my opinion.
Faces Go Chic Lip Gloss :
I loved glosses so much when I was in college. Even in school where there was no makeup allowed, I used to put on the Vaseline lip balm to make my lips look shiny 😀
This love for glosses has reduced over time. I still love glossy lips sometimes, but my preference has shifted to matte now. I find most lip glosses are quite sticky and thick.
This Go chic gloss from Faces is not an exception. It is those typical lip glosses which gives you a thick coat like you are wearing some kind of adhesive on your lips. It is an affordable option and an ok pigmentation I agree, but the formula I do not like at all. Faces Glam on lip glosses are far better than these.
I recently reviewed the Loreal Infallible Pro matte gloss. I am obsessed with this product, one of the best gloss I have tried ever. If you like a glossy lip topper kind of gloss you can check out PAC lip gloss or Kiko Milano 3D hydra lipgloss.
Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm :
This was a product my mom got as a gift from one of her student’s mom. She did not like it and passed on to me as she knows I love lip crayons. But sadly this product did not work for me as well.
Though it claims to be matte, it has a weird property. It dries down my lips over time any other matte crayons, but the stain on my lips never look completely matte. Also I find that when I am applying this product on my lips for the first time, it takes me 2 to 3 swipes for the color to evenly show up on my lips. But the color deepens overtime and looks a lot brighter than it initially looked after it settles down. This is a problem for me if I wear it to office.
The most disappointing part is it is extremely long wearing. You may think that is a great advantage, why am I complaining. But let me explain the drawback! The color settles on to your lips and the stain remains just there for more than 8 hours. After a heavy meal, the center part of the lip color goes away but the rest of it remain as it is giving you a butt hole lip. I told you it is drying on the lips, overtime the tint enhances the dry patches on your lips to another level and it is very difficult to remove. You have to use a makeup remover to get rid of the lip color, a heavy duty lip scrub to prep your lips, and a very moisturizing lip balm, if ever you try to reapply this crayon.
You can get a lot better quality product at much less price. If you absolutely love lip crayons like me try any of these 3 options – Maybelline Color Show Intense Crayon, NYKAA matte-licious Crayon Pencil or Faces Ultime Pro Matte Lip crayon.
Faces Go chic Lipstick :
I am not a fan of the Faces Go chic range. As a result both the gloss and lipstick are in this list. I think Faces does some amazing lip crayons, even the liquid lipstick is good. But lipsticks and lip glosses from this brand are not very up to the mark in my opinion.
This lipstick is comfortable to wear, decent pigmentation. But the pigment disappears from my lips after just a couple of hours even if I do not disturb the lip product in any way. I have to keep reapplying it so frequently that I am disappointed. There are lot better lipsticks in the same affordable budget category, do not waste your money on this.
For affordable and comfortable lipstick, Lakme 9to5 range of lipsticks are my favorite. Both Maybelline Color Show & Maybelline Color Sensational range of lipsticks are good affordable options.
Maybelline Fashion Brow Cream Pencil – Dark Grey :
I think Maybelline discontinued this product now after they launch the Brow Duo Shaper. I may be wrong, but I do not see this pencil available on our stores any more. If it is true I am happy as this is one the most horrible brow pencils I have owned.
You have to sharpen it every time is a big hassle when there are so many retractable options available in the market. You have to really rub this product into your brows multiple times to see some pigment. It has a powdery finish even if the brand named it creamy brow pencil, it does nothing to hold the shape of the brow. Sometime when I sharpen it some tiny hair like thing hangs at the tip which is weird in my opinion.
Even if it is one of the cheapest option for a brow pencil, do not buy it. Save up some money and go for a good one which really does its job well.
If you want a brow product from Maybelline, you can go for Maybelline New York Fashion Brow Duo Shaper. But I will suggest you to spend a little more and go for NYX Micro Brow Pencil or Benefit Goof-proof Eyebrow pencil.
NYKAA Matte Nail Laquer :
I love NYKAA so much more now than I did when their first launched product was a huge disappointment for me. NYKAA launched their makeup line with these matte nail laquer which every single Indian beauty youtubers were raving about. The concept of matte nails was new to me back then and so I decided to try these. I ordered 4 out of over excitement and all failed for me badly.
The color Lilac Scones does not suit my skin at all. I have to mandatorily use a top coat to alter the look slightly. Nutcracker Dreams is a beautiful nude nail color, I was the happiest with this one in particular when they arrived. It looked very promising as a daily wear nail paint. It stained my nails horribly, and the orange tint on my nails took several weeks to go. I do not know whether I received a bad batch or not, but the formula on both nude colors was very gloopy, like you find in very old nail paints. They did not apply well initially, but once it dried down matte it kind of looked ok. The most disappointing part for me is none of the matte laquer nail colors stay on my nails for more than 2 days. Yes you read that right, just 2 days and they completely chip off. In some cases, they even chipped off on the same day I applied them.
Apart from these 2 shades I also owned 2 more – Lemonade Fizz (lemon yellow) and Strawberry Shortcake (pinkish coral). These 2 shades were so sheer that even after layering them 4 to 5 times, I could still see my original nail color in few places. They also looked extremely uneven and patchy.
Two affordable but great choice if you love matte nail enamel are – Maybelline Color Show Bright Matte and Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte nail color.
Colorbar nail Laquer – Bloody mary :
I do not like Colorbar nail paints at all. They always fail me, each and every one of their range. These nail paints just do not want to stay on my nails at all. They chip off even after few minutes of application. The colors are really great and attractive like this blood red color – Bloody Mary. It looks gorgeous on my nails, but imagine such a bright nail paint chipping off in places right after you applied it, how annoying is that !
If you love to play with colorful nail colors try my favorite Maybelline Superstay nail colors. It stays more than a week on my nails and very affordable. If you can spend some more, O.P.I Nail laquer is great quality option.
Bella Voste Premium Nail Enamel :
I have mixed experience with Bella Voste nail enamels. I received total 3 from this brand, all in my Glamego boxes. I have come to conclusion that the flat bottle ones are far better than this circular star painted packaging one. The other 2 I have are very pigmented, one swipe and you see opaque application. But this one is like a glitter top coat. The pink pigment does not show up much on the nails. Also the applicator brush tip is so tiny that you have to dip in multiple times to paint a single nail completely. I do not like the finish as well, it looks like a very cheap and chunky top coat you get in any street side stalls at around INR 20 to 50.
All Bella Voste nail enamels are very long wearing. So definitely check the nail paints from this brand, but stay away from this particular circular star painted bottles.
If you like fun glitter top coats or nail enamels, go for Maybelline Color show Glitter mania nail laquer. You can also go for NYKAA Star Studded Glitter Coat Nail enamel, this one is far better than their matte nail enamels.
This is not a negative post, we are just discussing about our disappointed in the same way we discuss our favorites 🙂 I hope you enjoyed the post and the review helped you in some way.
