Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink review

Hello everybody !! Hope you are having a great week.

I came back from vacation couple of days back. It was a superb trip, stay tuned for a travel post on my North Sikkim tour soon. I could not share anything on my social media as I lost my phone on the very 1st day of the trip 😦 As soon as I get a new one, I will be sharing fun exciting pics on all my social media, so make sure you follow us on Insta, fb and twitter (you will find all the links in the home page).

The Maybelline Super stay matte ink liquid lipstick was launched few months back. Though I heard mixed reviews about this product on Youtube, the “super stay” claim attracted me towards it. I bought this bright fuchsia pink shade to try out and see for myself if this product suits my liking.

I tried this lipstick on my trip and few days in office. So in this post I will be sharing with you my experience & opinion about the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink liquid lipstick in the shade 30 Romantic.

Lets get started !

Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink – 30 Romantic (5 ml for INR 650) :

This is how the liquid lipstick body looks like. The packaging is color coded which is a plus. I love how the body looks and feels, the square body is different compared to most liquid lipsticks having circular or oval shape. But I do not like the glossy plastic white cap, it attracts dust pretty easily and feels a bit cheaper compared to the rest of the body.

The cap is twist open and fits tightly if you close it completely. So there will be no leakage if you keep it in your handbag. Also the plastic body of this product is quite light and safe for travel compared to the glass body packaging of other options available in the market.

Another drawback of the packaging is that slight pigment gets deposited just where the cap shuts and every time I try to open the cap my fingers have a bit of stain. I don’t know why they left the upper part of the body white, which makes the stains more visible and messy.

The applicator wand is long black in color. The tip of the applicator is quite interesting. It is not the usual doe foot we see in most liquid lipstick. Due to the shape it contains more product and thus 1 swipe can cover your entire lips, you do not need to dip in and out repeatedly.

In my opinion the applicator might me an issue if you have extremely thin lips like my mom, its always to use a fine lip brush specially for liquid lipsticks in your case. If you have normal lip shape like me, this applicator is not very big and you can use it quite precisely. It is always good to use a lip liner before using whichever liquid lipstick so that you never go outside your desired lip line.

Now coming to the product. The good thing about this lipstick is the shade. This particular one “Romantic” is a beautiful cool toned fuchsia pink. This color will look good in every skin tone in my opinion. It is not an everyday wear shade, but a very bright festive color ideal during summer.

Now the graph is going to slide down exponentially. The formula of this lipstick is not at all preferable. It is quite quick and so getting an uniform application is very difficult. You have to go over and over with the sponge tip to evenly cover your lips. Even if you manage to apply it perfectly on your lips after some struggle, the formula settles into your lip strangely, you can see all the cracks and fine lips enhanced as soon as you apply it (even if you have prepped your lips well in advance). Some super drying liquid lipsticks does the same thing after few hours, but this one does it immediately after applying even before the product completely dries down. The most annoying thing about the formula is its so sticky that if you press your lips you will feel like you have applied a layer of glue. Even when it dries down completely after few hours, you can still feel the stickiness on your lips. The formula is so thick that your lips feel heavy after applying this product.

The formula is so sticky and heavy that I will recommend you to go with a single or maximum 2 coats. If you want to reapply, remove the pigment completely with a makeup wipe, scrub your lips, moisturize and only then apply the lipstick again.

The claim “super stay” is to some extent true. It is not transfer proof, but transfers very slightly when it completely dries down. You can only remove it with a makeup remover. But after heavy meals, the actual pigment disappears from the center and a stain remains giving you a butt hole lip 😛

But the “matte” claim is not completely true. Even after several minutes the formula does not dry down matte completely. It remains a strange sticky semi matte finish.

Another very important concern you should keep in mind before trying this product is the smell. It has a very strong fragrance which I absolutely hate, fortunately it goes away after few minutes of applying it on the lips. But if you are sensitive to heavy smelling product, stay away from this.

Rating : 2.5/5

Will I repurchase ? NO

Overall I do not like this lipstick, though the color is pretty the formula is not at all as per my liking. I do not recommend this product.

There are total 10 shades available in this range. You can choose this one I got, or any shade of your liking if you want to try. Three other shades I like in this range are : Dreamer (pink nude), Lover (mauve) and Pioneer (coral).

Hope my review helped you in some way. Let me know in the comment section if you already tried this lipstick and how it fared for you.
