Makeup haul + product review – Gigi Hadid X Maybelline, Wet n Wild

Hello everybody !! Hope you are having a good week.

The New Year 2018 bought really good news for drugstore makeup lovers like us. Wet n Wild is a very popular and affordable brand in US, but sadly it was not available in India until NYKAA launched it exclusively this year. I heard so many Youtubers review various Wet n Wild products over the past years, I am very happy that I can finally experience them myself. Most of the products went out of stock very quickly, so I could not order the Photofocus foundation which was in my bucket list for such a long time. Even now when some shades are available my one (Buff Bisque) is still out of stock. I will review it as soon as it is available. Anyways, I will be sharing with you few other interesting Wet n Wild products I ordered.

Another super exciting news is that supermodel Gigi Hadid collaborated with Maybelline and launched some amazing products. I have major girl crush on Gigi Hadid, she is such a stunning lady. I hoped her makeup will help me look like her in some way 😀 😛

I already own a lot of Maybelline makeup, so did not want to repeat products which looked similar to what I already own. Most of the products specially the eye palettes was launched this Valentine’s day in India. I have ordered the Cool tone eyeshadow palette which I will be receiving soon, stay tuned for the review. In this post I will review my favorite lipsticks and eyeliner from the Gigi Hadid X Maybelline collection.

Lets get started !!

Lets begin with Wet n Wild. The products are all cruelty-free and super affordable.

These are the products I ordered :

  • Wet n Wild megaglo Contouring Palette – Dulce De Leche (12.5g for INR 499)
  • Wet n Wild coloricon Blush – Apricot in the Middle (5.85g for INR 299)
  • Wet n Wild Megalast Catsuit Matte – Coral Corruption (INR 499)
  • Wet n Wild Megalast Catsuit Matte – Give Me Mocha (INR 499)

Wet n Wild megaglo Contouring Palette – Dulce De Leche :

When I saw this product online I thought this is a highlighting-contouring duo palette. Even in the picture the tub looked quite big compared to the price. I own a similar one from Makeup Revolution and so wanted to see how this worked for me.

The packaging is quite basic plastic one. It lacks a mirror and the transparent cap makes it fragile for travel purpose. Apart from that the quantity is really good compared to the price, true to what I saw in the picture.

The ingredient and other details are mentioned at the bottom of the tub.

The circular tub is divided into 2 sections. 1 half contains a highlighting powder and the other half a bronzer. It is not a contouring palette as the name suggests. The highlighting powder is not a shimmery highlight which I supposed it was. It is like a banana powder to highlight your under eye area & set your concealer. So I will call it a highlighting setting powder. I imagined the darker product to be a nice contour powder. But sadly it is not. It is rather a bronzer with fine shimmer particles. I only prefer a matte chocolate brown or greyish brown contour shade which is very different from this one. The shade is OK for my skintone for a very natural bronzed look with a hint of shimmer. But I do not see it working if you like a tan bronzed look / defined contour.

Note that, if you are a fan of shimmering bronzer which gives you that sun kissed glow, this product will not impress you. The fine glitter particles in this bronzer do not much show up much on your face. You have to look really close to detect the shimmer.

The highlighting powder is a bit lighter than my skintone, and so it definitely makes my under eyes smooth and bright instantly. But for very light skintone, this particular shade may not work. There is only one other shade in this product range available in India. It will work for medium to dusky complexion. But for darker skintone, again none of the shades will sadly work.

The product is very powdery and has a lot of kickback. I personally think it works best with highlighting powder works best with beauty sponge and the bronzer with a dense angular bronzer brush. But if you have a fluffy powder brush only, you may need to work harder for the product to show up on your skin. Also you may waste product since it has so much fallout. The good thing is both the powders blend really well into the skin, so even if you go a little heavy handed you can blend it out easily.

The product is not much long wearing and disappears from my skin in 3 to 4 hours. But it is so powdery and easy to blend, that you can easily reapply.

You can see hand swatches of both the products in the below pic.

Rating : 2.5/5

I will not repurchase it, but if you are looking for an under-eyes highlighting powder & bronzer duo in a very affordable range and the shades match your complexion you may try this out. Not a must-have product !

Wet n Wild coloricon Blush – Apricot in the Middle :

All the blushes I own are on the pink or orange side. I always wanted to try an in-between color like this Apricot one which will give me a natural flush specially for day makeup / office events. I have seen one of my favorite youtuber Kathleen Lights review this product on her channel, so I decided to give this one a try.

The packaging is similar to the contour palette, only difference is this one is rectangular. I am not a big fan of the packaging. The transparent top is not very sturdy and makes the box quite fragile.

The ingredient and other details are mentioned at the bottom of the box.

The product comes with a small brush which has no use. If you really want to utilize the brush, you can use it for nose contour 🙂

The blush looks really pretty in the box, a beautiful apricot color with lots of fine golden glitter particles. The pigmentation is not much which may be a good thing if you are a beginner. The product blends into the skin completely giving you a very natural flush of color. I will suggest you not to use beauty sponge for this as the sponge may take up the pigment even  more and nothing will show up on your cheeks. Use a fluffy blush brush. The glitters are more visible in my skin tone, than the actual blush color. But if you have a lighter complexion, you will see more pigment.

I quite like it for day time light makeup look. It gives me a hint of color, I can skip a proper highlighter because it already gives me enough golden glow. So this product serves dual purpose and so a good value for money.

This product also has kickback, but less than the contour palette. The fallout is manageable. The powder is very finely milled and the glitters are not at all chunky.

As you can see in the swatch the product is decently pigmented and shows up as a very natural shimmer blush in my complexion.

Rating : 3/5

If you have a fair skin tone and like natural shimmering blush colors, you can try it out. Overall a decent product at an affordable price.

Wet n Wild Megalast Catsuit Matte – Coral Corruption & Give Me Mocha :

I heard so much good things about this lipstick since they were launched. I do not own any true matte liquid lipstick so far. Most of the liquid lippies in my collection are semi-matte or velvet matte. So I was super excited to try out these ones, the price tag of all Wet n Wild products are really reasonable.

The packaging is standard. The transparent body makes it easier to identify the shade. The transparent plastic applicator is an interesting feature.

I ordered a lighter shade and a darker one to test out the formula better. The shade Coral Corruption is a peachy coral shade, Give me Mocha is a deep nude shade pink undertones.

I find that Give me Mocha has better pigmentation and overall quality compared to Coral Corruption. Even if the applicator picks up quite a lot of product, but I still find my original lip color showing through in case of Coral Corruption even after 2 coats. Because it looks sheer, I have to layer the product 2 to 3 times which makes it quite heavy on my lips. I feel the pigment settle on my fine lips and enhance the cracks much quicker than the other shade. Also my lips feel very tacky and sticky with the shade Coral Corruption even when it dried down completely. Though the color is very pretty I do not like the formula at all.

Give me Mocha is so far my favorite product from Wet n Wild. It is a beautiful color for all skin tones. It gives you a one swipe opaque application. It glides on beautifully and does not look uneven at all. You have to put on maximum 2 layers to get the exact shade. When it dries down completely, it looks a superb deep nude color. I love the color so much, it is one of my best true matte nude lip.

The doe foot applicator tip is quite big and picks up a lot of product. So if you have thinner lips, defintely use a lip brush. I will suggest all of you however lip shape you have,  to line your lips with a lip liner, apply the product at the center part of your lips with the doe-foot and then blend the product with a brush with the rest of your lip.

Know that, all true matte lipsticks are drying. Always use lip scrub before applying them and prepare your lip with a good lip balm. The shade Give me Mocha feels quite comfortable on my lips and stays on for a very long time. Though it comes off if I take a heavy meal. You do need to scrub your lips slightly and reapply a lip balm before you can go over once more with this lipstick, as is the case with any other matte liquid lips.

See swatches of both the lipstick in the below pic. I have taken the pic just after application. They dry down completely matte.

Rating : Coral Corruption – 2.5/5, Give me Mocha – 4/5

I love the Give me Mocha far more than Coral Corruption.  I will 100% suggest you to go for the mocha shade. But if you like the coral color more and think it will suit your skin tone, you can try and let me know if it worked for you in the comment section.

Lets move on to the star products of this post – Gigi Hadid X Maybelline collection. Maybelline has hiked up the price for all the products in this collection compared to similar products offered by the same brand. The reason is not only Gigi’s name attached to it, some products are really better quality and the packaging is stunning. Also note that these are limited edition, so hurry up !!

These are the products I ordered :

  • Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Matte Lipstick – Khair (3.9g for INR 550)
  • Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Matte Lipstick – Austyn (3.9g for INR 550)
  • Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Liquid Liner – Black (0.5g for INR 499)

Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Matte Lipstick – Khair & Austyn :

Look at the picture below. How gorgeous does both of these lipsticks look. Wow !! Gigi Hadid nailed it with the packaging. And the shades of red, o my GOD !! They are STUNNING !! Without even reading the review you already know I love both of these lipsticks, a must must must try !!

All the boxes in this collection look amazing with the holographic design. The blush pink product bodies look elegant & classy, very similar to Kim K / Kylie products. All of them have Gigi’s signature.

The collection has total 6 shades – 3 nudes and 3 bold reds. The nudes too light for my preference, so I decided to try the red ones. Austyn is my favorite shade in the entire collection, a sexy cool toned red. Khair I bought for my mom who loves a warm toned true red color. Lana is an orange based red which I did not buy. From the nude collection I liked Taura, if you love pale nude shades you can try this. Erin is a very different color which very few can carry, if you love experimental quirky colors, go for Erin.

The ingredient list and other details are mentioned on the box.

The lipsticks are highly pigmented. You get one stroke opaque application. The tip of the bullets are quite pointed which makes it easy to use even without lip liners. The finish is not completely matte. They have a soft matte texture with a hint of shine, looks beautiful on the lips. Though the lipsticks are not transfer proof, you can reapply on top of existing layer anytime. They feel moisturizing and super comfortable to wear.

All colors in the red collection will suit any skin tone.

Rating : Khair – 4/5, Austyn – 5/5

I love both Austyn & Khair. If I have to absolutely choose 1, I will say Austyn is my favorite. Go for any lip shade in this collection whichever suits your preference, they are all good. Highly recommend !!

Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Liquid Liner – Black :

The packaging and look is same for all the products in this collection. Every product looks stunning and elegant just like Gigi herself 🙂

The eyeliner is a felt tip which is a lot of girls’ best friend specially in case of winged liners. I personally prefer liquid liners, but definitely when I am in a hurry felt liners makes life easy.

This particular liner is decently pigmented, though that is the only small issue I have. The color is not as dark as I prefer. But if you layer it about 2 to 3 times you can get a dark black pigment. The tip of the applicator is the beat feature of this liner. It is long and very pointed. It is perfect for creating a thin line over your eyelid or a sharp wing.

I will suggest to create a base line first and then start filling out the gaps in small stokes. This way you can get maximum pigmentation and an accurate wing.

The ingredient list and other details are mentioned in the box, similar to the lipstick.

Have a look at the swatch in the below pic.

Rating : 3.5/5

If you are a beginner and looking for a high precision felt tip liner, you can try this out. A good product, but not must have.

Hope my review helped you in some way. If you own any of the products I mentioned, share your experience below in the comment section.

Also let me know your favorite product from Gigi Hadid X Maybelline collection.
