Hello everybody !!
India is celebrating the festival of lights “Diwali”. We wish all our readers a very happy and safe Diwali. May God light up your life with happiness and prosperity.
In case you are not aware of the festival here is a small description :
Diwali or Deepavali is the Hindu festival of lights celebrated every year in autumn. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness ( good over evil). Before Diwali night, people clean, renovate, and decorate their homes with rangolis. On Diwali night, people dress up in new clothes, light up diyas, lamps and candles inside and outside their home, participate in family puja typically to Lakshmi – the goddess of fertility and prosperity. After puja, fireworks follow, then a family feast including sweets. We also exchange gifts between family members and close friends.
Bengalis celebrate Kali Puja also known as Shyama Puja. It is a festival dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali, celebrated on the new moon day of the Hindu month Kartik. It is almost same as Durga Puja, we construct decorative pandals (temple like structure) and worship beautiful clay idol of Kali Maa. Red hibiscus flower garland and sweets are offered to goddess Kali. In some places there is a ritual of sacrificing animals.
So it is double celebration for me as you know I am Bengali and my husband is from Bihar. So we celebrate both Kali Puja and Diwali 😀
Lifestyle shopping center have opened few months back near our home. We also have Home Center there which is a home furnishing brand of Lifestyle. Due to work pressure in office we do not get to do any DIY decorations for our home. So this year I decided to buy my Diwali candles from Home center. We also have many other local stores and other big brands like Hometown near our area, but I found Home center is offering some amazing discounts and also the candles are super pretty compared to the other shops.
This is my candle collection for this Diwali 🙂
I want to mention these cute pink flower candles first. These are made by special talented children (some of us may call them specially challenged, but I call them specially talented). An NGO organized a candle stall in our office yesterday and that is where I found these ones. They are my favorite.. such cute pretty pinkie flowers. I am planning to float them in a large glass bowl.
The whole box of 4 costs 80INR, so each candle is of 20INR.
These are from Home center. All the candles have a earthen base with decorations around the body. They come in many different colors. I chose these red, green, golden ones. The color scheme goes well with the golden glitter on top.
This box retails for 199INR. You get 4 candles in 1 box.
But they have buy 1 get 1 offer in all their candles provided you choose 2 boxes of the same price range 🙂 So I got another pretty one free with this.
I really love golden toned colors for my Diwali diyas, so I got all 4 of the same color box. But you also get contrast color options in other boxes. These also cost 199INR per box. But due to the discount offer you actually get 2 boxes (8 candles) at 199INR.
These next ones are like pillar candles. They are bulky in size but look exactly like my Tulsi Manch (cemented stand where we plant our Tulsi). The designed looked very unique to me, so I got them 🙂
Going with the golden themed candles, I got this color. Again you get large variety of color to choose from.
A box of 2 candles costs 149INR. They are of good size, so they will burn longer than the previous ones.
Again as I said they have buy 1 get 1 offer on all candles in Home Center. This time I got a different color – maroonish pink, the color looked different and unique.
These also cost 149INR. But since they are on offer, you get total 2 boxes (4 candles) in 149INR which I think is a great deal.
The packaging of all the candle boxes and pretty and ideal for gifting.
In case you have still not shopped your Diwali candles / you want any of these for yourself, rush to your nearest Home center 😀
Let me know in the comment section which candle you liked most from my haul / if you already own any of these.
Have a safe and great Diwali !!
